Frequently asked questions
What is a viewport?
The area of a browser window where a web page is drawn, measured in CSS pixels. On phones it is much smaller than the physical screen resolution because of the device pixel ratio.
Which viewport sizes should I test?
Test a small phone (about 360–375 px wide), a large phone (about 412–440 px), a tablet (768–1024 px) and a laptop (1280–1440 px). Breakpoints between those ranges cover almost every device.
What is the device pixel ratio (DPR)?
The number of physical pixels per CSS pixel. A DPR of 3 means a 1 × 1 CSS pixel area is drawn with 3 × 3 screen pixels, so images need three times the width to look sharp.
