ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
Chromium's description
Attempting to load an URL resulted in too many redirects.
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS, error -310. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- Conflicting HTTP/HTTPS rules: the server forces HTTPS while a CDN in flexible SSL mode connects over HTTP.
- www and non-www rules that point at each other.
- A login or cookie check that redirects again when a cookie is missing or blocked.
- A wrong site URL in the CMS settings, e.g. WordPress home and site URL.
How to fix ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
- Clear the cookies of the site and reload.
- Site owners: follow the chain with
curl -sIL https://example.comand fix the rule that sends it back. - On Cloudflare, set the SSL mode to Full (strict) when the server itself forces HTTPS.
- Check the CMS URL settings and redirect plugins.
ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS in the screenshot API
When the page itself fails to load with ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS, the API answers 502 with the message The target website could not be loaded (ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS). (target_unreachable). Not billed.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
