ERR_TIMED_OUT
Chromium's description
An operation timed out.
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_TIMED_OUT, error -7. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- The server accepts the connection but takes too long to answer, often a slow backend or database.
- A very slow or overloaded network connection.
- An antivirus, proxy or firewall that holds the request back.
- Long-running requests that a load balancer or CDN does not wait for.
How to fix ERR_TIMED_OUT
- Reload; if it happens once it is often a busy server.
- Test from another network or device to see whether it is your connection.
- Turn off proxies, VPN and HTTPS scanning.
- Site owners: find the slow requests in the server logs and look at backend timeouts and worker limits.
ERR_TIMED_OUT in the screenshot API
When the page itself fails to load with ERR_TIMED_OUT, the API answers 502 with the message The target website could not be loaded (ERR_TIMED_OUT). (target_unreachable). Not billed.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
