ERR_FAILED
Chromium's description
A generic failure occurred.
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_FAILED, error -2. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- A browser extension, antivirus or firewall that blocks the request.
- A corrupted cache or profile.
- A service worker of the site that answers with an error.
- Policies of an organization’s managed browser.
How to fix ERR_FAILED
- Reload, then try an incognito window without extensions.
- Clear the site’s data (cookies, cache, service workers) in the site settings.
- Turn off the antivirus web shield to test.
- Developers: open DevTools, Network tab, to see which request fails and why.
ERR_FAILED in the screenshot API
When the page itself fails to load with ERR_FAILED, the API answers 502 with the message The target website could not be loaded (ERR_FAILED). (target_unreachable). Not billed.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
