ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE
Chromium's description
The server closed the connection without sending any data.
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE, error -324. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- The server process crashed or was killed while handling the request (out of memory, a fatal error).
- A request or response too large for the server or a proxy.
- A firewall or security module that drops the request silently.
- A plain-HTTP request to a port that expects something else.
How to fix ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE
- Reload and try another browser or network.
- Clear the browser cache and cookies of the site.
- Site owners: check the web server and application error logs and memory limits at the time of the request.
- Check that the URL uses the right protocol and port.
ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE in the screenshot API
When the page itself fails to load with ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE, the API answers 502 with the message The target website could not be loaded (ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE). (target_unreachable). Not billed.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
