ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
Chromium's description
A connection was reset (corresponding to a TCP RST).
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET, error -101. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- The web server crashed, restarted or dropped the request while answering.
- A firewall, antivirus or corporate proxy inspected the connection and killed it.
- A VPN or an unstable network (Wi-Fi, mobile) interrupted the connection.
- A TLS mismatch or a security appliance in front of the site resets connections it does not like, for example from data-center IP addresses.
How to fix ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
- Reload the page; a single reset is often a hiccup.
- Turn off VPN, proxy and HTTPS scanning of your antivirus, then try again.
- Restart the router, or switch networks (mobile hotspot) to rule out your connection.
- Site owners: check the web server and load balancer logs for crashes, worker limits and idle timeouts at the time of the reset.
ERR_CONNECTION_RESET in the screenshot API
When the page itself fails to load with ERR_CONNECTION_RESET, the API answers 502 with the message The target website could not be loaded (ERR_CONNECTION_RESET). (target_unreachable). Not billed.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
