ERR_CACHE_MISS
Chromium's description
The cache does not have the requested entry.
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_CACHE_MISS, error -400. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- You pressed Back or reloaded a page that a form submission produced.
- The site sends
Cache-Control: no-storefor that page, so there is nothing to go back to. - A browser extension or a corrupted cache interfered.
- In Android WebView apps: the app lacks the INTERNET permission or loads a page from the cache only.
How to fix ERR_CACHE_MISS
- Reload the page and confirm sending the form again, or open the page from its link instead of using Back.
- Clear the browser cache (Settings, Privacy, Clear browsing data).
- Disable extensions one by one if it keeps happening.
- Developers: redirect after a POST (Post/Redirect/Get) so that Back lands on a normal GET page.
ERR_CACHE_MISS in the screenshot API
The API loads every URL fresh in a new browser profile, without a cache or a Back button, so it does not run into this error.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
