ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT
Chromium's description
The client chose to block the request.
Chrome shows it as net::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT, error -20. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.
Common causes
- An ad blocker (uBlock Origin, AdBlock) or tracker blocker blocking a script, image or the page.
- An antivirus browser extension.
- Browser policies of a managed computer.
How to fix ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT
- Disable the ad blocker for the site, or allow the blocked URL.
- Test in an incognito window without extensions.
- Developers: rename files and paths that look like ads (
/ads/,banner.js) so filter lists do not match them.
ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT in the screenshot API
With block_ads=true (ads and trackers) or block_cookie_banners=true (some cookie-consent scripts) the renderer blocks requests the same way; the blocked requests fail with this error and the page renders without them. Without these options nothing is blocked.
Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.
