ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE

Chrome had an IP address for the website, but there was no network route to it: the address cannot be reached from where you are.

Chromium's description

The IP address is unreachable. This usually means that there is no route to the specified host or network.

Chrome shows it as net::ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE, error -109. puppeteer and Playwright report the same name when a page fails to load in Chromium.

Common causes

  • The address is private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x) or belongs to a network you are not on, such as a company network without VPN.
  • Your network has no IPv6 connectivity and the site resolved to an IPv6 address only.
  • The router or the ISP has a routing problem.
  • A local firewall or a parental-control filter blocks the address.

How to fix ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE

  1. Check that you are on the network the address belongs to, or connect the VPN.
  2. Restart the router and the device.
  3. Try another network to rule out your ISP.
  4. Site owners: make sure the DNS record points to a public address that is reachable over IPv4.

ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE in the screenshot API

Private and reserved addresses are refused before the browser starts: 422 with an error that the target is on a private or internal network. A public address the renderer cannot reach is reported, like every connection that could not be opened, as status 502 with the message The target website could not be loaded (ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED). Not billed.

Only the page's own load can fail a render. An image, script or frame of the page that fails with a network error does not: the page is captured as the browser shows it without that resource.

Rendered in a real browser with cookie banners hidden. Takes 5–30 seconds.
